Nearly 200 entries graced our 2013 Spring Show. Daffodil entries were down this year because of the poor weather, but we still had some excellent blooms on the benches. Prizes here were shared between great rivals Ray Hayward and Bill Haworth.
Looking on a brighter side, entries in the cookery, preserves, handicraft and children’s sections were well up. New comer Bob Strickland took the Novice Shield and Isla Brown, from Upwey, carried of the Junior Cup, beating stiff opposition. It was wonderful to see so many entries in the children’s section. I loved the animals made from vegetables and who could resist playing with the children’s musical instruments. Well done to them all.
Doris Flack’s winning exhibit in the floral decoration section lifted one’s spirit on a cold March day, as did Meg Rolfe’s copper coffee pot in the handicraft section. The cookery section was overflowing with delights. Cheese scones begging to be buttered, victoria sandwiches waiting to be cut and fruit cakes ready for slicing.
Awards were presented by Danny Morgan, in record time because of a rugby game that started at 5.00pm. Can’t think who was playing!!!!!!
A very big THANK YOU to all our exhibitors and all the society members who helped to make our Spring Show 2013 a great success.
